NBA Draft

Gui Santos

Scouting Report

The 6-8, 190-pound swingman entered the draft last year before withdrawing and returning to his team in the Brazilian league's first division, Minas Tenis Clube.
Santos, who turns 20 the day before the draft, drew the attention of scouts with his performance at the NBA's Basketball Without Borders Americas camp in 2019.
This year Santos averaged 10.5 points on 45% shooting from the floor, including 32.6% from beyond the arc. Also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
Strengths: Versatility. Swing player but often called on to bring the ball up for his pro team. Can score off the dribble. Strong one-on-one player and off the ball. Solid rebounder, defender, athlete. Can guard multiple positions. Instinctive playmaker. Stepback jumper is a weapon. Effective on pick and roll. Mismatch creator with his size and skills. Lean but with his broad shoulders, should be able to add weight comfortably. In each of his four seasons in professional basketball in Brazil, Santos has improved his numbers. Energetic. Has 7-1 wingspan.
Weaknesses: Despite excellent form, Santos struggles with shooting, including free-throw accuracy, though he made a major improvement this year hitting 72.9%. Tendency to dribble into trouble. Prone to defensive lapses. Can be beaten off the dribble. Needs time in the weightroom. Good handling the ball and making decisions on drives to the hoop but a lack of explosion limits his finishing ability near the rim. Potential to be taken in the second round. Might need another year of polish before he's ready for the NBA.
