Scouting Report

OVERVIEW
Richards sometimes blended in on Kentucky's deep roster, but he averaged 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a junior. That was a good way to stand out.
It's not like he's an automatic impact player like other post players to come through the Wildcats system. He averaged 5.1 and 4.0 points in his first two college seasons.
But by shooting 64.4 percent from the field during the past season, it helped him pick up All-Southeastern Conference honors.
Even when his overall point production was lower earlier in his career, his shot selection was solid and that allowed him to hit shots at a strong clip (61.6 percent as a freshman and 59.8 percent as a sophomore).
He's 6-feet-11 and that type of size is bound to be coveted, particularly if the progress continues at a decent rate.
ANALYSIS
Richards made such a jump in production that he probably surfaced unexpectedly on some radars during the past season. Before that, it took time for him to break through for regular playing time on Kentucky's roster.
From a practical standpoint, he needed to put his name into the NBA draft this year as he turns 23 years old by late November.
With other players with good size and athleticism in the draft, it's unclear what Richards has done to distinguish himself among that group. He played at a high level for one season in the college ranks, so that counts for something.
Projection: Late second round
