Scouting Report

McDaniels played one season for Washington, averaging 13 points per game. At 6-feet-10 with the ability to get up and down the court in smooth fashion, he looks like a player who can excel at the professional level.
His shooting is erratic, including a 33.9-percent mark on 3-pointers. Shot selection could be at the root at some of his shooting woes. On the flip side, some scouts like his aggressive nature in seeking shots.
Teams will look at factors other than the basic statistics when evaluating McDaniels, who fouled out in eight games with the Huskies. He also was tagged with six technical fouls. Those cost him some playing time, though it wasn't always clear if the message was delivered.
McDaniels has a sleek body with lots of athleticism to go with it. He'll be 20 years old before draft day.
Experience isn't on his side, though older brother Jalen made the transition to the NBA. The younger McDaniels is mostly intriguing because of the potential.
There will be questions about how he'll operate in the structure of a halfcourt offense. His offense will need to progress to the point where he's creative enough to make moves against physically stronger players.
He might be best positioned to play at small forward, but he has the height that might be associated with a power forward. At 200 pounds, he'll need to pack on some muscle, something his body should naturally allow.
Projection: Mid-to-late first round
